IRCE Boasts Innovative Solutions to Retail Trends

IRCE ReTrans Freight BoothWe wrapped up the spring trade show season in the Windy City with a whirlwind of a show. The Internet Retail Conference & Exhibition (IRCE) brought together over 10,000 eCommerce enthusiasts at Chicago’s McCormick Place, and as the star event of the eCommerce industry, it did not disappoint.

From Classy Llama’s 16-foot-tall llama statue to Shopify Plus’ gargantuan control center complete with dry ice, IRCE was a feast for the eyes and mind.

Outside the exhibit hall, attendees had the chance to soak up words of wisdom from established eCommerce experts Dave Gilboa, co-founder and co-CEO of Warby Parker, and Alon Cohen, president and co-founder of Houzz.

Personally, I enjoyed listening to Slice Intelligence’s Principal Analyst Ken Cassar explain how similar companies can have dramatically different online market share and that it really comes down to speed and accuracy of delivery. Next, Lauren Freedman of the e-tailing group presented more evidence that logistics is paramount in importance to price and assortment when it comes to e-tailer success rates. We hope this will reduce the number of convention-goers asking us, “What is a freight company doing at an eCommerce show?” If you’re reading this and still not sure, check us out.

I was also able to sneak away from our booth to hear Fareeha Ali of Internet Retailer break down the state of online marketplaces and why Amazon is not the only one to be watching. Walmart, eBay, and a bevy of others are not far behind. Ali advised vendors to look at marketplaces not just for sales but for customer acquisition. Additionally, she said there are niche marketplaces out there that can propel businesses in ways that the big players may not.

We met a lot of interesting and friendly folks while manning our booth. By the end of each day, we were exhausted from the exciting conversations as well as the multiple hours on our feet. However, now that the show is behind us, we’re really looking forward to reconnecting with everyone and discussing more about how the right freight solutions can increase shopping cart conversion rates.
